Hmm. Mmm. So good. This was my first time trying birra tacos. Why didn't someone tell me what I was missing?!? This was our first stop on our KCK Taco Trail. Authentic and delicious! It's small, so social distancing was a bit of a challenge. But every one was wearing a mask (except when seated). Staff were helpful and friendly. I knew I was in the right place because lots of locals were dining. I even got some tacos to go so my peeps at home could try. (Tip: if you're not ready to dine in - it travels well.) Beef and lamb are the only meat choices. No vegetarian options. They also serve Mexican sodas, quesadillas and menudo. I was not adventurous and did not try the menudo. It's a bit of a drive for me but well worth it. I will be back.

I was not familiar with the word Birria, until Yelp included it in their list of new food trends for 2021. El Menudazo specializes in Birria and Menudo and since I despise Menudo, I was eager to see what the hype is all about with a small (chica) order of lamb Birria, over the other option of beef. In retrospect, I wish I had ordered the Grande because this was the perfect dish for a cold February day. The bowl of consumme' was as zesty as an au jus sauce and filled with tender chunks of lamb meat and a few hominy. A separate plate provided cilantro, onions, lime, salsa and 3 hot corn tortillas. There was still plenty of cilantro and onions to dump into the broth after eating 3 hearty tacos for a wonderful second course. I am eager to return for the grilled cheese tacos and consomme' for dipping. You can count me in on the Birria hype; a new favorite dish and a cool little KCK taco shop.

Birria quesatacos are my favorite new food trend so I was on the hunt today for some. I found El Menudazo when I googled "Birria tacos" so that's where I went. If I'm being honest, I chose here, looked at the few reviews and almost went somewhere else, but I decided to give it a try. When I walked in, I looked at the menu and saw Birria Grande and Birria Chica, I asked the difference and the lady behind the counter somehow knew I didn't come for that, I came for the quesatacos. I found out they're actually called Tacos Dorado and here they come with your choice of lamb or beef and with or without cheese (con o sin queso) at $2.75 each. I chose 5 lamb 5 beef with cheese. I am glad I asked if it came with the juice (are you judging me right now because I called it juice? Me too.) because that had to be bought separate for $3.00. So my total was $36 for 10 tacos and consommé, that sounds like a lot but these are hearty tacos. I wanted to try the Birriachan, it looks like Birria stew with ramen noodles in it, but 10 tacos was enough! I waited maybe 10 minutes, and I was on my way with my tacos dorado Birria con queso , cilantro, onions, limes, sauces, and consommé. These were good, there really was no difference in flavor between and beef, and I've had lamb I know that isn't true usually. The consommé was a broth, when I've had these before it was meat filled, but this was still good. I only ate 3 tacos, and I am FULL. It was worth the trip.
